About COLFUTURO

Since 1991, COLFUTURO has financed postgraduate studies of more than 17,000 Colombian professionals at the best universities in the world, as a result of the collaboration with the National Government, through Minciencias, and some of the country's leading companies. This project has enabled the beneficiaries to contribute their knowledge to the next generation upon their return. Thanks to COLFUTURO’s financial support, close to 20,000 Colombians have been able to study abroad in around 880 universities abroad.
 

Support from the National government 

The first cooperation agreement was signed between the Ministry of National Education, the Colombian Institute for Educational Loan and Technical Studies Abroad (ICETEX) and the Foundation for the Future of Colombia (COLFUTURO) in 2007. One year later, this agreement was renewed through Colciencias (now Minciencias), Icetex and COLFUTURO.

In 2009, it was established that the national government would bear the costs, for at least nine years of the resources destined to condonation (scholarship) granted to beneficiaries of the Loan Scholarship Program (PCB).

Hence, the new scheme of condonations for the PCB was established in 2017 through Conpes 3862 of 2016, which amended Conpes 3835 of 2015, by virtue of which the Government committed to contributing COP$698 billion to support COLFUTURO's growth until 2025.

La Fundación para el Futuro de Colombia (COLFUTURO) contributes to the country's development by granting opportunities to Colombian professionals of academic excellence who will pursue postgraduate studies in the best universities worldwide.
